Conor McGregor is on his longest-ever lay-off. The last time he fought was in 2021 against Dustin Poirier in their trilogy. However, during this time, he continues to be associated with the sport. Last year, he was one of the two coaches in the Ultimate Fighter Season 31. At the time, it was expected that his bout with Michael Chandler would be made official after the show.

However, months have gone by and an official fight announcement appears to be a long-lost dream despite the Notorious showing his interest in facing Chandler. But who is to be blamed? McGregor, Chandler, or the UFC? Find out what a former MMA champion thinks.

Chael Sonnen, a former Middleweight fighter asserted that the former Lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, should be blamed for his inactivity in the sport. In his video, he went on a long rant, sharing his intriguing thoughts and opinions. Amongst other things, he said, “Now I’m not ready to clear the UFC. I’m not ready to clear that because I don’t have the information. But if I clear them, I would then be putting it on Conor, and I don’t know that I can do that. If I blamed the UFC, I would be clearing Conor.” Chael Sonnen then added that the UFC rebuked Conor when they failed to go along with his media announcement and support the announcement of his fight with Chandler.

It is intriguing to see Sonnen blame the UFC for this fiasco. Moreover, this opinion is not exclusive to him and many share it with him, including McGregor himself. Time and time again, the former Double champion has hinted at being held hostage and not making a fight booked for him.

Last year, it was speculated that McGregor would come back by the end of the year. However, that speculation did not come to light and the Irishman himself addressed on X. While doing so, he made it a point to let it be known that he was not allowed to compete by the UFC. According to Talksport, McGregor hinted at the UFC not allowing him to fight. “They’re not going to let me fight in December, ladies and gentlemen,” McGregor said in a series of voice notes on X last year. He added, “But anyway, I hold the power, and I’m going to keep doing my thing, I’m in a great spot, and I’ll see you all soon. F****** early next year, hopefully.”
