UFC lightweight, Dustin Poirier, took to Twitter and responded to Charles Oliveira in a way that got the fans’ attention. Chiefly, ‘Do Bronx’ reposted an article that saw Joe Rogan pine for a fight between the Brazilian and Poirier. However, it seems as though Dustin ‘The Diamond’ has plans of his own that he plans to stick by.
Me too @joerogan but Dustin has other plans. So lets move on. https://t.co/up5I7hfmnd

Charles Oliveira has been clear that a title shot against Dustin Poirier is the only thing currently on his mind. However, Poirier plans to fight Conor McGregor once again in a highly anticipated trilogy fight. The bout is expected to go down in the summer, and Oliveira will likely be on the sideline for a meaningful period.

Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira: Lightweight stand-outs
‘The Diamond’ has defeated a large chunk of the 155-pound division as it stands, including Justin Gaethje and Conor McGregor. The glaring loss on his records came against the undisputed champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, back in 2019 at UFC 242. However, he’s managed to stake his claim as arguably the best lightweight after ‘The Eagle’.

With the trilogy fight with McGregor on his mind, Poirier will draw his attention towards another definitive stoppage win. He executed a game plan that was detrimental to the Irishman’s style and it paid great dividends for him. Furthermore, he’s also got his sights set on fighting Nate Diaz in what would largely be a fan-service match-up at the point.

‘Do Bronx’: Chasing greatness
It would appear Charles Oliveira doesn’t have enough leverage the force the Poirier’s hand to battle it out. This is alarming when considering that he’s currently on an eight-fight win streak that has been nothing short of dominant. He’s coming off the biggest win of his career in a dominant demolition of Tony Ferguson that legitimized him further.

It seems like either Justin Gaethje or Michael Chandler are the opponents who are on deck to face ‘Do Bronx’. Looking at his position in the division, the Brazilian deserves nothing less than the upper-echelon competition. However, there’s much to be said for the fact that the lightweight title is still in limbo with no clarity in sight.
