The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is one of the most vicious rivalries in the history of UFC. Both the lightweight fighters have collided thrice in their UFC career.

In their first fight in the featherweight division, the former two-division champion knocked out ‘The Diamond’ in the very first round of the fight. Later in their much-awaited rematch last year, the Louisiana native turned the tables around and shut the lights off McGregor in the second round at UFC 257.

Then, the rivals clashed for the third time in a blockbuster trilogy fight at UFC 264. This time around, the Irishman suffered a gruesome injury in the first round and hence Poirier won the fight.

However, McGregor wasn’t taking the defeat and asked for a fourth fight then and there. But it seems like the quadrilogy might never happen, as ‘The Diamond’ isn’t interested in fighting the Irishman for the fourth time unless there is a lucrative paycheck.

In his recent media interaction at UFC 271, Poirier said, “Me and Conor have history. Fighting him at 45, then bumping up fighting him seven years later, beating him. And even that fight”

“I am probably not gonna fight Conor again. I don’t really wanna fight Conor again. For me, that door is closed. The only reason I do it is for money, you know. I beat him two times in a row.”– he added.

“What can I best my two performances? Can I knock him out quicker, you know? Can I 10-7 him? I mean, what can I do? I have done it if I do it again, it’s just for money, right? So that’s a completely different thing.”– Poirier concluded. 

Dustin Poirier might compete in the welterweight division soon

After defeating ‘The Notorious’ for the second time last year. The Louisiana native went for the lightweight title shot against the Brazilian champion Charles Oliveira.

Unfortunately, ‘The Diamond’ lost the fight. This was his second attempt to earn the UFC gold. Hence, many speculated that the former interim champion might retire from professional fighting.

However, Poirier wasn’t done yet. He expressed his interest in fighting the fan-favorite Nate Diaz in the welterweight division. Interestingly, the latter also responded. And both the parties have verbally agreed to fight. However, the UFC is yet to make the fight official.
