‘He Had Three Fingers in My Glove’ – Dustin Poirier Accuses Conor McGregor of Cheating During Their Trilogy at UFC 264

Dustin Poirier faced Conor McGregor in one of the most anticipated MMA fights of 2021. The pair faced each other in their trilogy fight at the main event of UFC 264. The fight which was touted to be one of the most exciting of the night ended just after 1 round.
‘The Diamond’ won the fight after the first round, via TKO. McGregor could not continue the fight as he ended up breaking his leg towards the end of the first round. While the fight ended after the first round, it was still entertaining while it lasted.

Now Poirier has claimed in the post-fight press conference that McGregor even tried to do something illegal during their fight. When asked about what he was talking to referee Herb Dean about, Poirier revealed the same. He said, “I let him up because he had three fingers in my glove. You know the cuff at the tape? It’s a good grip, and he was pulling me down into up-kicks. He was pulling me down and then kicking up at the same time.”

“I’m not surprised that he does that type of stuff. I was telling Herb that I can’t get out of it. When I told Herb, maybe Conor pulled his fingers out. You know, fighting’s crazy, so I’ve got to go back and see, but that’s what I was trying to tell Herb.”
This is not the first time someone has accused McGregor of cheating. Khabib Nurmagomedov had also accused ‘Notorious’ of cheating during their clash at UFC 229.
What’s next for Conor McGregor?

With his loss against Poirier, McGregor has now lost 3 out of his last 4 fights. Therefore, many people believe McGregor should now consider retirement as he does not look motivated enough to compete in the UFC.

However, McGregor himself does not believe that, as the fighter has called out Poirier for a 4th fight as he does not believe this victory for Poirier was deserved.
