UFC Legend Georges St-Pierre appeared on ‘The MMA Hour’ with Ariel Helwani and talked about all things fighting. Despite being a retired fighter, ‘GSP’ always has something going on in his personal life related to fighting. Not to mention, he continues to train at a high level and has still not shut the door on making a comeback to active competition.
In the midst of it all, Helwani asked St-Pierre to comment on Conor McGregor and whether he could reach the pinnacle of the sport ever again. ‘Rush’ was introspective when looking at McGregor’s career and provided some clinical advice. Chiefly, he advised McGregor to move on from Dustin Poirier and focus on trying to secure other match-ups.
“If I’m his [McGregor’s] manager, I don’t want my client to come back to fight the same guy again for the fourth time. Now it seems like Dustin has his number. He need to take another fight. I think he should come back and maybe fight Nate Diaz or someone else that has a different style than Dustin Poirier because styles makes fights.

St-Pierre might have a valid point as many fans and pundits believe that Poirier is simply a step ahead of McGregor at this point. ‘The Diamond’ has remained the more active fighter and had a far more rigorous strength of schedule.
McGregor will be greatly benefitted if he turns his attention towards other fighters in the division. Despite the two losses, he is still an elite lightweight and has a lot to offer against stylistically favorable opponents.

As ‘GSP’ suggested, Nate Diaz would be a viable match-up since both men are coming off two losses each. Not to mention, there is a built-in narrative that exists and a trilogy fight would sell exceptionally well at the box office.
