After a disappointing outing at UFC 285, which saw him get finished for the first time in his MMA career, former interim champ Ciryl Gane appears to have gone back to the drawing board in a bid to work on weaker aspects of his game. This information was disclosed by Gane‘s coach, Fernand Lopez, during a press conference following UFC 285. While talking about his plans for the heavyweight, Lopez disclosed his preferred timeline for a return. Along with that, he also talked about his intended plans for his student before they decided on their next opponent.

Interestingly, fans seemed quite disappointed with this update. Since Gane‘s fight with Jon Jones lasted a bit over two minutes, many felt that a long layoff was unnecessary. Some also chose to point out the glaring lack of wrestling in the Frenchman’s arsenal and asked Lopez to work on that aspect.

Fans question Ciryl Gane’s plans after Fernand Lopez reveals September return timeline

Speaking to the French media, the successful MMA coach disclosed that he would prefer a return by September. And although Gane clearly didn’t take any damage during the fight, Lopez claimed that they could use the time to work on the weaker aspects of their game.

“Probably in September. Firstly, he returns to competition in September. Anyway, that’s what I want.” stated Lopez.

Fans expressed disappointment in the timeline revealed by Lopez; many also shared the sentiment that Gane clearly had a lot more work to put in toward his wrestling.

Let’s take a lot at some of the comments from fans.

“He could probably return next week.”

“He didn’t take 1 solid punch, he should be back in the Apex next month to redeem himself after that performance.”

“Time to work on his grappling Though at this point, maybe he should just say f*ck it and only try to fight strikers. Maybe hope Jon retires soon and the few top heavies that are great grapplers get derailed elsewhere.”

“He needs a new coach and some serious time spent working on his grappling, he can’t ever expect to be champ when anybody above amateur level can control him”

One fan seemed quite pessimistic about Gane‘s chances against Jones if they were to face again.

“He can put in 5 years non-stop 365 days of grappling, and Jon Jones would still manhandle him. There’s just no gaining on people who’ve been wrestling since they were kids and are still evolving their game. That choke by Jones was a thing of beauty.”

“I am guessing there might be another Paris card in September.”

Another fan told them to take up Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s offer to train in Dagestan.

“He should take up Khabibs offer about going to train in dagestan”

One individual even questioned Lopez’s capacities as an elite coach.

“There’s a reason Ngannouleft Lopez, the tw*t.”

Lopez believes they can work on Gane’s weaker aspects during this gap

The MMA factory head coach also stressed the fact that they could use the time to make serious developments in ‘Bon Gamin’s arsenal.

“I prefer that we let it pass. And when there is time to pass, we develop seriously in the necessary fields.” He explained.
