Jon Jones made a triumphant return at UFC 285. He made quick work of Ciryl Gane to claim the world heavyweight title in under three minutes of the first round. However, ‘Bones’ will now be fighting former champion Stipe Miocic next. But a UFC fan recently urged that Jones should not fight the 40-year-old veteran, to which the new heavyweight champion replied on Twitter.

‘Bones’ claimed the world heavyweight title in his first-ever fight in the division. However, he will be turning his attention to the number 1 contender, Stipe Miocic, for his first title defense.

Following this announcement, a fan took to social media and expressed his feeling towards the match-up. He mentioned that Jones‘ fight with ‘The Silencer’ now would not make sense as much as it would have three years ago.

The fan said, “Bro [Jon Jones] if u would have fought him 3 years ago it would have meant something. Now even if u beat him it won’t mean much.” He added that ‘The Silencer’s best years are behind him. “Stipe is 40+ years old. He is past his prime. Also hasn’t fought since 2020/2021 I don’t remember exactly,”

Jon Jones replies to a fan’s tweet

‘Bones’ was quick to get back at the UFC fan and stated that he thinks now is the best time to fight Miocic. He said, “In my head he’s [Stipe Miocic] better than he’s ever been.” Jones mentions that the 40-year-old is a much better opponent for him than ‘Bon Gamin’ and emphasized how big a deal this match is to him.

“He’s definitely a lot more Experienced and well-rounded then Gane. This is an extremely important fight for both of our legacies, I must treat it as such.” Said the new heavyweight champ.

Jon Jones‘ return to the UFC him setting new PPV records. However, he isn’t done. Jones is clearly taking ‘The Silencer’ as a serious opponent, and beating him will help cement his legacy as one of the greatest heavyweight MMA fighters of all time. ‘Bones’ claims that with all of Miocic‘s experience in MMA, this is the best time to fight him.

Miocic and Jones are not that far apart in age. Both fighters share an age difference of five years. However, MMA takes a toll on a fighter’s body and it seemed natural for the UFC fans to raise their concern over the match-making process.
