Tom Aspinall – MMA and UFC record

Apparently, Tom Aspinall was offered a UFC contract much earlier in his life. However, he chose to turn it down since he didn’t believe that he was ready for the big leagues. Back then, he was competing in Cage Warriors. He secured two quick victories in the promotion and eventually decided to sign with the UFC.

Tom Aspinall made his UFC debut in 2020. He was initially pitted against Raphael Pessoa, but the fight fell through. Next, his opponent was slated to be Jake Collier. Unfortunately for him, this bout was also postponed due to the pandemic. Then, on 25 July 2020, the fight against Collier finally happened. Aspinall won it by TKO and that earned him a Performance of the Night award.

Today, Tom Aspinall’s UFC record stands at 6-1-0. The only fight that he lost was against Curtis Blaydes and that too because he injured himself. His professional MMA record, however, stands at 13-3-0, which is also quite impressive given the fierce competition in the weight class that he fights out of.

Aspinall headlining UFC 295? What about the Jon Jones fight?

When Jon Jones came back to the UFC and became the UFC heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic was selected to be his first heavyweight title defense. The bout was scheduled for UFC 295 and the MMA world was brimming with excitement. However, Jones suffered a serious injury while sparring and had to bow out of the fight.

Naturally, UFC CEO Dana White had to fill the UFC 295 card. Now, Tom Aspinall will take on Sergei Pavlovich and that would be the UFC 295 co-main event. Aspinall had expressed interest in fighting Jones after he was done with the Stipe Miocic fight. While he didn’t get what he had hoped for, it seems he has a chance to put his name at the top of the challenger list.

Now, Ciryl Gane has refused to fight Aspinall and Jones has decided to retire after the Miocic fight. However, if Jones vs. Aspinall becomes a reality, it may change the entire dynamic of the UFC heavyweight division.
