Michael Bisping is a legendary figure in the annals of the UFC. One of the reasons that he is rated so highly by many UFC fans is because he fought and won a UFC championship blind in one eye. He defeated Luke Rockhold in the first round at UFC 199 in 2016 for the middleweight crown. He went on to lose the title to Georges St-Pierre, considered the GOAT by some, at UFC 217 a year later.

In interviews given after his retirement, Bisping revealed how he was able to pass his pre-fight medical screening. The Englishman had memorized the vision chart, which helped him fool the doctors, who would’ve declared him ineligible to fight if he hadn’t. And it seems his extraordinary frauds in the cage have inspired a cancer patient, who shared a peon he had written, which Bisping added to his Instagram Story

I can’t imagine what state he was in

After that point, more success began accumulating

He became a world champion, and that gave me inspiration

Life as a human being has taught me that so much we can’t control.

Although something that keeps me going is working towards a goal

Tomorrow isn’t promised for you or me

Therefore, use today to be the best that you can be”

The Manchester resident suffered from a detached retina in his right eye in a bout against Vitor Belfort in 2013. After that, he started losing vision in that eye, eventually going blind in it by the time he fought for the title in 2016.
