Although he is getting ready to enter the world of boxing, Nate Diaz still has an eye on the UFC octagon. Diaz just had the first press conference for his upcoming boxing bout against Jake Paul. The former UFC star laid bare his future plans and said he fancies a return to the UFC after the boxing match.

Never one with a shortage of options, Diaz had to answer quite a few questions about his choice of opponent for a UFC return. While many asked him about the Conor McGregor trilogy, there was another fighter that Diaz had all the praise in the world for.

The ex-UFC welterweight had nothing but good things to say about the current UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Diaz had fought Edwards at UFC 263 back in 2021. The Stockton slapper lost the bout via unanimous decision. Therefore, when asked about the current champion, Diaz showed an interest in fighting him again.

Nate Diaz on a potential Leon Edwards rematch

Back in June 2021, Nate Diaz and Leon Edwards fought in one of the greatest five-round non-title co-main events in UFC’s history. This fight did wonders for Edwards and raised his stardom. This was also his last fight before he beat Kamaru Usman for the 170 lbs title.

Edwards won the fight via unanimous decision and went on to win the welterweight title and defend it once. Now, amidst all the title fight chaos at welterweight, Diaz has a few words for the champion.

Speaking to MMA Junie’s Mike Bohn about a potential rematch, Diaz said, “I don’t think I’m over him either too… He’s great. He’s a great fighter also. And it’d be cool if he hung on to it for a while and he deserves it. Trains hard and works hard.”

Edwards was cruising comfortably through the fight until Diaz landed a crisp one-two that rocked the Brit in the dying seconds of the last round. Ironically, those few seconds of Diaz pointing at a wobbly Edwards after the combo was the highlight of the fight.

Currently, Edwards is getting ready for a welterweight title fight announcement amidst all the chaos in the division. He will probably defend the title against Colby Covington next.
