“Sweet Dreams” came true for Jamahal Hill as he beat Glover Teixeira to secure the light heavyweight belt at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Teixeira faced Hill in the main event of UFC 283 in the Jeunesse Arena and went to war for five straight rounds. In a battle of grit and resilience, Hill came out on top as he beat the hometown fighter to take the vacant throne of the 205 lbs division.

The 43-year-old veteran Teixeira came into the fight, losing only one out of his last 5. The only loss came from his title defense against Jiri Prochazka. Hill entered the octagon with a three-fight win streak and four wins in his previous five outings.

Teixeira struggled to get his ground game going as Hill successfully defended several takedowns. To make things worse for the former champion, Hill consistently found success with his striking and came close to securing a finish several times. He rocked Teixeira multiple times with his left head kicks.

Following his loss, Teixeira announced his retirement and said he would be focusing his energy on helping the middleweight champion and fellow teammate and countryman Alex Pereira. The 43-year-old also noted that he was too tough for his own good, after pushing through an enormous amount of punishment to go the distance in what became his last dance in the octagon.
