Jon Jones is out of UFC 295 due to an injury he sustained in training. The fight between him and Stipe Miocic was poised to be a legacy-defining matchup for both men. Jones moved up to heavyweight to face Cyril Gane at UFC 285 earlier this year for the vacant title. However, the fight ended quickly with Jones showing his incredible grappling skills by submitting Gane in the first round. Fans were expecting Miocic, a former 2-time heavyweight champion to deliver a tougher test for Jones, but news of the injury has led to disappointment in the community.

UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the injury on social media and also shared that the event will now see an Interim heavyweight title fight to replace Miocic vs. Jones. Jones recently shared a video on social media where he provided the fans with an update regarding his injury. In the video, he also made an interesting statement regarding the fight against Miocic that might ease some concerns for the fans.

Jon Jones was scheduled to make his inaugural heavyweight title defense against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. The title had remained vacant ever since Francis Ngannou’s departure from the UFC due to contract disputes. While Jones had previously won the title in a fight against Gane, Stipe Miocic was regarded as his first substantial challenge in the heavyweight division.

However, the fight fell through due to Jones suffering from a pectoral tear in training. In the video released by Dana White on social media, Jones can be seen wrestling with a partner and suddenly stopping and grimacing in pain.

Jones, while clearly upset, acknowledged the unfortunate situation and emphasized that injuries are a part of an athlete’s life. He thanked the UFC for connecting him with one of the country’s top doctors. He also stated, “I guess it will be Stipe and I at a later date, and that’s my plan. So it’ll be surgery and physical therapy for me for the next several months. But I’m committed”

It remains to be seen when the proposed fight between him and Miocic will take place as White has stated that he anticipates an eight-month recovery period for Jones before rescheduling the fight with Miocic. White also announced that Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich would step in as the replacement heavyweight co-headliner, competing for an interim title at UFC 295!

Tom Aspinall is ready to etch his name in UFC history

Fans might have missed out on Jones vs. Miocic for UFC 295 but the replacement fight has the potential to overshadow the original bout! Sergei Pavlovich, the Russian knockout artist is on a 6-fight winning streak in the UFC. All of his wins have come via knockout in the first round.

Tom Aspinall, the British heavyweight, will be looking to add his name to the rare list of British UFC champions. Michael Bisping at middleweight and Leon Edwards at welterweight, currently stand as the only British champions in the history of the UFC. Aspinall, who is known for his well-rounded skills and exceptional physical attributes, has been hailed as the future of the UFC’s heavyweight division by fans.

In a recent interview with the MMA Hour, Aspinall stated that he thinks Pavlovich is “…the most dangerous man in the UFC”. But he is also confident in his abilities and his only focus is becoming the heavyweight champion.

Aspinall stated,“I think I can beat him, I’ve been matched up against him twice before. I’m hungry to get the heavyweight title.”
