The days for UFC 300 are slowly but surely cutting down. With the historic event etching closer, UFC and MMA fight fans still have no idea who would headline the event. This has led to quite a lot of speculations from the fans and UFC personnel trying to decode who the main event is to be. From potential comebacks from Israel Adesanya and Conor McGregor, all the way to new title defenses from new champions, Alex Pereira and Dricus Du Plessis, all relevant fighters have been speculated to possibly headline the event.

MMA fans have guessed quite a lot of plausible fighters to headline the event. However, UFC CEO, Dana White is still keeping a tight lid on who would headline the event. Even long-time UFC commentator, Jon Anik has given his possible take on the main event of UFC 300.

Jon Anik predicts who could headline UFC 300

The UFC 300 event, gearing up to be as big as it is, the UFC is not compromising on the suspense of announcing the main event for UFC 300. However, UFC commentator, Jon Anik, has Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis headlining the historic event given their “Real African beef” which started from the octagon interview of UFC 290.

Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya seemed like they were supposed to trade leather for the UFC middleweight title. However, with injuries and Adesanya taking a break from fighting, the two middleweights failed to fight. Now, with Dricus Du Plessis being crowned the new middleweight champion, he wished to defend his middleweight strap against “The Last Stylebender”.

In a recent interview with the Schmo, Anik gave his speculation for the main event of UFC 300. He stated, “I’d imagine we will get that answer before February 17th. Which is… I guess my non-informed speculation is Israel Adesanya vs. Dricus Du Plessis.”

Jon Anik’s speculation does make sense given the history behind the two. However, given Du Plessis’ recent war against Sean Strickland, how ready is The South African to defend the middleweight title?

Dricus Du Plessis on fighting Israel Adesanya at UFC 300

In a recent radio show with Jacaranda FM, the middleweight champion revealed that he wished to take things slow for some time given how he rushed to get the UFC middleweight title. And given the slugfest he had with the former middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Du Plessis take some time to defend his title.

On whether he was eyeing to defend his title at UFC 300, Du Plessis said, “I have no idea. For me, right now, we are still busy with some scans and seeing what we can do in terms of after the fight, some injuries, can we fight soon, is that a possibility and all that… We’ve had a very active last year, year and a half. And that’s what I said, we rushed to get to this belt, we had to take every opportunity given to us. Right now, we need to be smart and defend this belt and when it suits us.”
