The BMF champion Jorge Masvidal is getting set for his highly awaited rematch at UFC 261. ‘Gamebred’ will go up against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ and battle for the welterweight gold. Kamaru Usman is undefeated in the UFC with three title defense to his resume. He has already defeated Jorge Masvidal in his second defense at UFC 251, and will look to go 2-0 against the BMF.
At Fight Island, Masvidal fought Usman on 6 days’ notice. He saved the PPV by replacing Gilbert Burns as ‘Durinho’ tested positive for coronavirus. Now, he will look to level the scores against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

In a Q&A session for ESPN+ subscribers, Masvidal talked to Laura Sanko, where he made his intentions clear about booking a trilogy against Usman after defeating him.
He said, “When I win the rematch. We definitely will go for the trilogy because I will not go down in history 1-1 with this individual. It’s just not going to happen.”
‘Gamebred’ has made it clear to the media that if he wins the rematch, he will go for a trilogy fight as he wants not only to even the scores, but he wants to take a lead over Kamaru Usman.
Jorge Masvidal will only cut 8 to 9 pounds
Now, Jorge Masvidal has all the time he needs to prepare for the fight. The first time he had an inbuilt excuse, as he had to cut 20 pounds in just six days. Weight cuts are very hard for a fighter as they have to drain the water out of their body. This causes dehydration and fatigue in the muscles which ultimately degrades their performance inside the Octagon.

Masvidal said, “I’m not going to cut 20 pounds of weight now, mainly of water, in six days. As I stand right now, I’m eight, nine pounds before I hit the mark of 170. So it’s a different weight cut altogether. That’s going to be the main determining factor I think.” (h/t: mmafighting.com)
Masvidal claims he is very near to making the championship weight, and this time he only has to cut 8 to 9 pounds ahead of the fight. This could make a tremendous difference in the bout, as Masvidal will be much more hydrated and energetic as compared to the last fight.
‘Gamebred’ looks super motivated, and the welterweight belt seems super necessary for the Miami-born fighter to achieve his goals of trumping ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.
