Conor McGregor and his infamous return story keep making fans impatient. But will it finally come to fruition during International Fight Week? From July 3rd to the 9th, the UFC will observe the fight week where perhaps some of the wildest fight cards could go down.
Only recently has Sean Strickland lost his middleweight title. But with a ferocious fighter like Khamzat Chimaev lurking close to the cage, perhaps an interesting fight could go down. Here’s what former champion and UFC veteran Michael Bisping speculates.

Bisping on Conor McGregor, Strickland, and ‘Borz’

Conor McGregor announced a return to the cage against Michael Chandler at middleweight. The mentioned date? June 29th. Unfortunately, the UFC announced nothing and in a recent press conference, when head honcho Dana White was asked about it, he answered with a straight-up “no”.

So perhaps it was all yet another piece of a mind game from McGregor to troll Chandler who looked like he took the bait immediately getting into camp. Either way, surprises around his return could still await us. Meanwhile, Michael Bisping thinks a card with Chimaev and Strickland on the co-main could very much happen.

“. . . Just round the corner from there is International Fight Week right?” said Bisping on Believe You Me Podcast. “And we don’t know if Conor is gonna fight on that or not but if he does,  Khamzat, Sean Strickland co-main event for international fight week. I mean that is, that would be my. . . if I was Mick Maynard and Dana White, Sean Shelby that’s what I’d be thinking right now 100%,” he added.

Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard are matchmakers for the UFC. They are the people who work alongside Dana White to make the big fights happen. And Bisping makes an interesting point that perhaps these are the sort of fights that could have the biggest pull. But there’s more to UFC 300 that happens right before it too. Would White want to save some fights for the pay-per-view?

What does Dana White have under his sleeve?

Dana White is still yet to announce the main event for UFC 300. He wants this to be the biggest pay-per-view of the year 2024 so far. And for that, and only that reason, he’s kept the main event a secret. And yet, fans can already see the rest of the card and be amazed. Meanwhile, Bisping speculated interesting fights.

“We might see Tom Aspinall, Ciryl Gane, you know who knows maybe Alex Pereira, Magomed Ankalaev, they have got some nice fights they can put on there.” Certainly, Pereira defending his light-middleweight championship for the first time would be interesting.
Meanwhile, Aspinall going up against heavyweight legend Ciryl Gane would make for an exciting matchup too. What do you think the UFC has cooking behind the scenes? Will it involve Conor McGregor after all?
