Gilbert Burns, Khamzat Chimaev after their UFC 273 clash
The welterweight slugfest between Gilbert Burns and Khamzat Chimaev was one of the best fights of the year. The Brazilian withstood the Swedish powerhouse’s early onslaught and made him look human in the later rounds. Now, almost seven months removed from their first meeting, the pair are making plans to dance in the octagon again.

Both Burns and Chimaev have been calling out top opponents. As those call-outs proved unsuccessful, the pair caught each other’s attention on social media.
Gilbert Burns is ready to fight Chimaev at any weight
After unsuccessfully calling out Jorge Masvidal to a welterweight showdown for January 2023, Gilbert Burns has now accepted a middleweight callout from Khamzat Chimaev. Talks of Gilbert Burns fighting Jorge Masvidal on the Brazil pay-per-view event were hot until Masvidal recently denied those rumors. Now the Brazilian has the attention of his last opponent.

In a recent tweet, ‘Durinho‘ tagged ‘Borz‘ and let him know that he’s ready to fight at any weight. The tweet also had a screenshot of an interaction between the pair on Instagram.

Burns had responded to a recent Instagram post from Chimaev. In response to his comment. Chimaev wrote, “@gilbert_burns If Alex not ready to be killed, let’s go du it again in Brazil 84 kg this time 🤝💯”
Both Chimaev and Burns consider their business unfinished. With both fighters unbooked for a fight at the moment, a second fight would not be entirely out of the question.
Burns called for a 5 round of war with Khamzat Chimaev
Khamzat Chimaev recently shared a picture on his Instagram. The 28-year-old looks absolutely jacked in what appears to be a picture during a workout session. His fellow welterweight, Gilbert Burns, responded to the picture, expressing curiosity.

Chimaev saw the interest from his rival and proposed that they fight a second time at middleweight. The undefeated Swede had previously called out the newly crowned middleweight king Alex Pereira. However, Chimaev wants Burns in Brazil if the Pereira fight doesn’t come to fruition.

Burns responded to Chimaev’s proposal with a counter condition, “@khamzat_chimaev Let’s do it 5 Rounds any weight.” Since their previous outing ended in a close decision win for Chimaev, Burns wants to leave nothing to chance in a potential second fight. The Brazilian took the fight to Chimaev, exposing the chinks in his armor, and both of them almost finished the other on multiple occasions.
