Chael Sonnen started the conversation about Bo Nickal and Chimaev’s fight and who would win it. He mentioned in passing how these fights are for “popularity contests”. He also explained how UFC comes down to the most basic thing which is ‘Pace,’ and who is superior and who isn’t. He said, “I don’t think you know much about Bo. You have to take it from me. I have been watching him since he was at the cadet trials against Mark Hall when he was 15.”

He elaborated, “He can weaponize Pace. He can hold up the entire time. He has never cracked and he has never broken and there are not very many wrestlers that could say that even the really tough guys experienced it at some point along the way maybe that’s how they learned their lesson and started training with coach Cal in the first place.”

Sonnen also complimented Bo’s style of pacing and resetting, however he also gave the same praise to Chimaev. He explained that nothing is going to make an athlete intimidated unless they find themself in a match that is harder than he thought it was going to be. Chael Sonnen gave examples of John Mackenroe from the 1990s and he played a match against a high school kid and the kid beat the legend. His point was that he did not let the high school kid win but he was in a match that he found hard to succeed in.

Ultimately Sonnen’s point is that every upset has this challenge and Chimaev needs to prepare himself for that. Anything can happen to even the champions in the UFC. However, Bo Nikhil has been getting a lot of heat for being on the UFC 300 main fight card.
