Costa has come under fire from the MMA community for his recent antics regarding the weight issues leading up to his fight against Marvin Vettori. Both men were scheduled for a middleweight bout, but during fight week, Costa revealed he would not make the weight. He came in at 211 pounds, which was 25 pounds over the limit. MMA fans and fighters blasted the Brazilian fighter for his unprofessionalism.
UFC, after a lot of discussions, initially decided to go ahead at 195 pounds, but later settled on 205 pounds. The fight is now a light heavyweight fight. ‘The Italian Dream’ has been game throughout the whole issue and constantly said that he’ll fight Costa at any weight.

A big opportunity for both fighters
The upcoming bout is huge for both fighters. They both are coming off losses against the UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. If they want to stay relevant in the title picture, they desperately need a win. With Adesanya looking at a potential fight against Robert Whittaker. And the winner of Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier possibly in line for a title shot next, Costa and Vettori need this win to stake a claim at a shot.
