ESPN MMA on its latest throwback video took fans down memory lane with a clip of Jorge Masvidal getting submitted by Toby Imada. The fight that took place in 2009 saw a young ‘Gamebred’ getting put to sleep by an inverse triangle choke.

Fans took on the comment section with many of them bashing Masvidal, even calling him a journeyman. His fans although were also quick to point out that the BMF champ didn’t tap out, staying true to his claim of being the “Baddest M**********r”. Interestingly, even former Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman left a like on the post. The duo has faced each other twice with the Nigerian getting his hand raised both times.

“Masvidal if he faced Khamzat” was the response by the fan.

“Masvidal is a one trick one fight pony. Dude was a below-average slugger until his flying knee against a poor man’s Chael Sonnen. His talk is bigger than his fight.” Commented another, referring to Jorge’s win over Ben Askren.

There was yet another comment with a reference to the Askren fight. “Masvidal had one big knee to KO Ben. Other than that, he’s not elite”

Another hilarious comment referred to contract negotiations saying “Negotiations must be going sour to make Dana ask ESPN to do him this dirty”

A fan was quick to point out that former Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman also liked the post, drawing a funny response from the user. “Usman like this post haha”

On the other hand, Masvidal’s fans were also there to defend him, pointing out that the BMF champ has been fighting for 20 years and that he choose to go to sleep rather than tap out.

“Y’all hating on Masvidal so much acting like he’s not elite when the dude has been fighting for 20 years and has fought killers in and out the UFC and his record isn’t much different from RDA who is a legend. And Masvidal’s  last 2 losses are to the 2 best welterweights on the planet pretty much”

“Say what you want, the man didn’t tap”

Surprisingly, there was only a single comment on the individual who pulled out the submission on Jorge.

He aptly commented, “Toby Imada. No one ever gives him credit when they post this”

What’s next for Masvidal after his previous losses

‘Gamebred’s career might seem on a decline as he has been accumulating losses over the course of his last three fights. With the recent legal issues that he has been embroiled in, in relation to the assault case against Colby Covington, it’s difficult to predict when he steps into the octagon. Also, his last win was back in 2019, raising questions about whether he still can make another title run.

Surprisingly, even though the 38-year-old has been on a downhill trot, there is no dearth of potential opponents. His rivalry with current Welterweight champ Leon Edwards might help him push himself to another title shot. If that doesn’t work, a potential big-money fight against Conor McGregor is also a possibility.
