‘Money Fight’ Conor McGregor Inspires Alexander Volkanovski to Move Up to 176 lbs in Stunning Confession: ‘I Will Fight Him’

Alexander Volkanovski is ready to bounce back. And he’s ready to take on one of the most sought-after fighters in the UFC. ‘The Great’ faced a devastating first-round KO loss against Islam Makhachev the last time we saw him. Now, the featherweight champion prepares for Illia Topuria, but who else is on his mind?

The title defense will go down at UFC 298. Topuria is a fascinating contender who might just give Volkanovski a run for his money. However, it is none other than Conor McGregor that Volkanovski might want to fight ultimately. How and why? Here’s his take.

Alexander Volkanovski wants to take down McGregor

Conor McGregor has been a famous multi-divisional champion in the UFC. Volkanovski shared the same dream but he fell a bit short against Islam Makhachev. But perhaps fighting McGregor himself would prove to be a worthy battle.

Volkanovski opened up about it in a recent conversation. He noted how both he and McGregor had taken victories against featherweight champs but had never crossed paths with one another. Now that the Irishman is eyeing a comeback, will their fight be set up after Volkanovski’s Topuria fight?

“There’s a story yes, there’s a there a storyline there where like we’ve both beat all other featherweight Champions,” said ‘Volk’. “But I haven’t beat him so I want that and then there’s a story there and I’m happy to move up everyone. I’ll move up. I’ll fight at 80 KG. I don’t care what it is I’ll fight you know I’ll fight him at whatever. It’s a big fight, a fun fight legacy fight, exciting fight, a money fight.”

McGregor is infamous for switching weight divisions and tormenting his opponents all across the board. The UFC world will perhaps never forget his total and complete mental dominance over Jose Aldo. The former champion was soon defeated in a quick knockout fight to lose his featherweight title. Can McGregor do the same to ‘The Great’?

The knockout that hurt Volkanovski

After losing a very close battle to Islam Makhachev at UFC 284, Alexander Volkanovski had a shot at redemption at UFC 294. However, it wasn’t all the same. He had to step in at a few days’ notice when Makhachev’s original opponent, Charles Oliveira dropped out.
