After the eventful UFC 286, UFC president Dana White set in motion the next title fight for the welterweight champion Leon Edwards. The UFC lynchpin entrusted UFC star Colby Covington with the opportunity to challenge ‘Rocky’ for the UFC gold. Thus, extending the American fighter another shot at the title after he dropped the previous two opportunities against Kamaru Usman. However, ‘Chaos’ himself lacked any optimism about the same before Dana White officially announced him as next in the line. While the champion himself voiced displeasure about the decision, the title challenger believes his ultra-professional work ethic played an important part.

Notably, the 35-year-old opened up about the suspicions surrounding him and the factors that ultimately afforded him the opportunity as he sat down with Michael Bisping. Appearing in the latest episode of Believe You Me, the Clovis native also discussed his appearance at UFC 286 weigh-ins that baffled a few.

The 17-3 record holder said, “To be honest, Mike, no, there wasn’t any guarantees that I was going to get the next title shot, you know. I think but I just went out there and handled my business in an ultra-professional way. Where I showed to the UFC my true value and my true colors, you know.”

Following this, he suggested he was amenable to fighting either guy at a moment’s notice. While the promotion called him a couple of weeks preceding to be prepared in case of contingency, the actual call came a few days before.
