UFC Bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley spent a fair time in the promotion. Therefore, is familiar with the rules and regulations that fighters must follow. And to ensure the requirements are met, the UFC introduced USADA. The United States Anti-Doping Agency ensures that athletes are clean from any substances ahead of their matches. To safe keep the integrity of the sport and prevent any unfair advantage among athletes.

However, the agency has earned a poor reputation for testing athletes at odd times. Waking them up, disturbing their hours. It has become so common, even the UFC P4P men’s champion Alexander Volkanovski and UFC middleweight Paulo Costa openly stated their concerns with their testing policies. To add to that, the American UFC Bantamweight shared his own experience with USADA in a recent episode of his podcast.

Sean O’Malley details a morning routine involving USADA

In EP.222 of the TimboSugarshow podcast, ‘Suga’ reminisced about USADA waking him up to test him. The organization is infamous for doing the same thing for many UFC athletes. But O’Malley shared that he likes to be woken up and describes one of his favorite ways to wake up, involving the agency.

O’Malley said, “I like getting woken up early at a nice…. by USADA…“One of my favorite ways to wake up is a k*sh sparking, USADA knocking, heart rate spiking’… Love that”

Even though O’Malley claims it is one of his favorite ways, the other fighters such as ‘The Great’ or ‘The Eraser’ or even ‘The Czech Samurai’ would beg to differ. Because each of these notable UFC athletes faced immense difficulties with the testing frequency of the agency.

Back in November of last year, Paulo Costa even tweeted to express his discontent with USADA. He wrote “This is unbelievable.” about his experience with the anti-doping agency.

Even UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski woke up to an unusual test

Since USADA partnered with the UFC in 2015, they strived to position the UFC at the forefront of the fight for clean sport in mixed martial arts. But, caused a huge commotion among the athletes in the efforts.

UFC fans still remember the unusual tests USADA conducted. How they even conducted a piss test and woke up Alexander Volkanovski in the middle of the night. His fans must hope he gets a good night’s sleep for his upcoming title matchup against Islam Makhachev at UFC 284.

Furthermore, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jiri Prochazka made a record. After USADA tested him 64 times in 2022. Therefore, these incidents solidified USADA’s reputation among MMA fans and fighters. Even ‘Suga’ adhered to the same opinion after the recent stint with the anti-doping agency.
