UFC star Conor McGregor‘s coach John Kavanagh‘s autobiography “Win or Learn: MMA, Conor McGregor and Me: A Trainer’s Journey” is a well-documented piece on his life. He talks about his life, working with McGregor, and his journey to the MMA world. He talks about his relationship with ‘Mystic Mac’ and having witnessed both, his highest and his lowest moments.
Kavanagh talked about how many times he had let McGregor get away with trouble. But there was one incident where the former two-division champion took things too far. He once bullied retired mixed-martial artist, Aisling Daly during training. Daly had trained with Kavanagh for years.

“I was sitting in my office when I heard someone outside say, ‘That fella is dropping Ais.’ I knew straight away it was Conor,” said Kavanagh. He added, “I came out of the office and saw Ais keeled over in the ring. She was in tears. Conor hurt her with a body-shot.” McGregor certainly started off on the wrong side of coach Kavanagh.
Coach Kavanagh taught Conor McGregor a lesson
After finding out that Aisling Daly was hit with a shot from the Irishman, Kavanagh decided to teach the former champion a lesson. He told McGregor that he will fight him next and strapped on his gloves. He wrote, “I took Conor down and beat him up until he received the message loud and clear: These are your teammates, not your opponents.”
McGregor eventually accepted his mistake and confessed that he deserved it. ‘Mystic Mac’ has maintained a healthy relationship with Aisling Daley. He even wished her well after Daly’s debut win in UFC back in 2014.

Coach Kavanagh reiterated the story to the Irish Independent back in 2016. He told them that the situation sounds worse than it was. McGregor hit an accurate body shot that created the whole situation. He said, “It sounds worse than it was. He wasn’t hitting her in the head or anything, but just happened to throw a body shot that hit her in the sweet spot, the solar plexus, and put her down.”

Kavanagh also mentioned that he was an active fighter during those days and it didn’t take him time to put the gloves on. Kavanagh successfully took him down. He mentioned that he had issued a warning to McGregor which made the latter calm down. That incident didn’t stop Kavanagh and the former double division champ to work together as they went on to become renowned and successful figures in MMA history.
