The validation that comes along with having a sizable following on social media is becoming one of the most critical aspect to have in today’s time. That is essentially what brings the factor of addiction along with it that goes unseen in the light of being popular. And that is something TikTok caters really well to its users and has them hooked on the app. This was the subject Joe Rogan touched upon in his latest episode of the JRE, along with the famous YouTube duo, Sam and Colby. They talked about how back in the day, having a following was considered being of some significance and held some credibility. Wherein today, almost every other social media user is having that privilege by doing absolutely nothing of value. To which, the UFC commentator called out how TikTok caters to it the worst.

Joe Rogan exposes TikTok’s dark truth

In the episode #1922 of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the UFC commentator discussed the obsession of today’s generation with having followers. Something he believes doesn’t have any real meaning attached to it. Discussing this with the YouTuber duo, Rogan said, “TikTok is weird because they just make you have large following, so that you’ll be addicted to it.

He further added, “I have heard kids talking about, ‘I have 2,000 followers.’ Like, they are f*cking you. They are lying to you. They are just making you get more followers so that you can get addicted to it.”

In addition to what Joe Rogan mentioned, Sam Golbach offered his viewpoint and addressed the dire consequences of becoming hooked on instantaneous fame. He said, “And think about. like, after you do get those followers. Let’s say you have one viral video, and then you never get it again. So you had this one success and addicted to it, and fail and fail and fail and fail. How hard is that on the psyche to just be like, ‘Oh I did it. And now I can never do it again.”

Having said that, this isn’t the first time the 55-year-old has called out the social media giant on his show. In one of his previous episodes, he talked about the outrageously invasive policies of TikTok.

Rogan is horrified by the ‘crazy’ privacy policy of TikTok

Nowadays, data collection is something that isn’t unusual in today’s time with the plethora of social media platforms that we have today. In episode #1847 with Theo Von, the 55-year-old read out the privacy policy of TikTok, and it’s as crazy as it gets.

Rogan cited, “This is from TikTok’s privacy policy. It said, ‘We collect certain information about the device you use to access the platform. Such as your IP address, user region… mobile carrier, time zone settings… the model of your device… your screen resolution and operating system, app and file names and types.’ So all the apps and all your file names, all the things you’ve filed away on your phone, they have access to that. ‘Key stroke patterns or rhythms…’ Which means that they know every f*cking thing you type.”

He proceeded reading it further, “‘We may also associate you with information collected from devices other than those you use to login to the platform.’ Meaning, they can use other computers that you’re not even using to log into TikTok. They can suck the data off that.”

It indeed is freaky and ironic at the same time to know that these things are done in the name of ‘privacy’.
