Joe Rogan is probably the best interviewer on the internet. He has good conversational skills, and is genuinely interested and curious about a variety of topics. The podcast host gives his guests ample time to expand and explain the topic, and facilitates the conversation well. He is also a genuinely sympathetic and warm guy who creates a comfortable atmosphere for his guests.

Rogan has cited the defunct Opie and Anthony radio show as the biggest influence behind his podcast. He spoke about their format of just having guests walk in and “shoot the s***” with the guests like friends would as what he wanted his podcast to be like. This was exactly the mood was like when he and guest Mike Baker discussed a worrying trend among teen athletes on episode 2021 of the JRE podcast.

Joe Rogan talks about some greedy parents of young athletes

During the podcast, Baker told Joe Rogan that one of his sons is going to the IMG Sports Academy in Florida as he wants to be a professional basketball player. Rogan turned the conversation to a worrying trend he was seeing among teenage athletes. The Boston native pointed out that some parents are making their kids take Human Growth Hormones to improve their physique and get them to perform better.

“People are doing all kinds of s*** to their kids now. Yeah, they’re juicing them up with human growth hormones to get them to grow,” Rogan said.

Baker agreed and mentioned that he had witnessed other players being reclassed for three to four years. Reclassing is the practice of holding a child back in school for one or more years. This practice provides student-athletes with a size advantage over their competition. Rogan remarked that there is a lot of money in being a successful student-athlete, which is why parents got that route.
