Regardless, Yair Rodriguez got the win over Brian Ortega. Thus, the 29-year-old could finally get his first shot at the featherweight strap.
However, considering how the 31-year-old injured himself, Rodriguez might need to face Josh Emmett before facing Alexander Volkanovski. Emmett is ranked #4 in the division and is carrying a serious momentum of his own.
Anyhow, fight fanatics showed their disappointment with how the bout ended.

Not the way anyone wanted this to go.

Full credit to Yair Rodriguez. He threw up the arm bar and Ortega got hurt defending it. That's a sub. #UFCLongIsland

Even if Pantera secures the title in his upcoming bout, if he gets the opportunity, he might need to beat the Australian champion twice before moving on with his business with his fellow Mexican fighter.
Since Volkanovski has defeated Max Holloway three times in the featherweight division and has already defended his title 4 times, he would most likely get a title rematch if he loses. And if Yair loses to The Great, a rematch with T-City could be on the table for the Mexican fighter.
