Chael Sonnen is inarguably one of the most reputed names in the fight world. He has fought for multiple promotions, including the UFC. Sonnen’s heavy striking and, more importantly, frivolous trash-talking has made him a well-recognized figure in the MMA world. Many consider him to be one of the greatest fighters who never actually won a championship. Sonnen took the sport of MMA to new heights with his trash-talking. He attracted a lot of people to MMA just with his ambiguous yet confident words on the mic.

Sonnen is a retired fighter now, but his trash-talking videos still flood the Internet. The online MMA covering page ‘Elite MMA World’ posted one such video on Facebook. The video showcased Sonnen completely reversing one of his post-fight interviews. Joe Rogan, the UFC’s color commentator, and usual post-fight interviewer, walked into the Octagon to conduct Sonnen’s post-fight interview. However, Sonnen overturned things and made it a Joe Rogan interview instead.
Chael Sonnen claimed ownership of the Octagon
The incident took place after Sonnen scored a victory over the noted fighter turned analyst, Michael Bisping at UFC on Fox 2 in 2012. As usual, Joe Rogan walked inside the Octagon for the post-fight interview. Asking about Bisping, he questioned Sonnen, “Did he surprise you at all in this fight ?”

But Sonnen got into the best of his trash-talking mode and said, “Joe Rogan tonight is not for questions for me. This is your night brother”. He continued, “I want to know how you feel being only inches away from greatness.”
It was apparent that Sonnen wanted to declare himself as one of the greats of the Octagon. He further bragged, “I want you to tell everybody how it feels. Are you not mesmerized?”. He implied that there was mesmerizing greatness in him which should have taken over Rogan as well.

Sonnen also stated, “Do you not have chills going up your spine for the first time on Fox for you to be here? In Chael’s Octagon, on Chael’s channel, holding Chael’s microphone and interviewing Chael.” In his words, the Octagon and everything related were all his.
Sonnen announced himself as the embodiment of greatness
Rogan tried to answer Sonnen, saying, “I’m pretty excited, I gotta…”, but Sonnen snatched the mic. And said, “While you think about that, remember this. When you’re the greatest fighter in the world today, they got a name for you.”
