Reports now suggest that Chandler will be fighting Conor McGregor at UFC 300 in either the main or the co-main event of the pay-per-view. Fans have plenty of reactions to the news. Some believe it’s going to be a blast watching ‘The Notorious’ back in the cage. While others are more certain that a main or co-main event should feature a title fight.

The return of the Irishman is certainly a much awaited event. McGregor is being his classic self perhaps as he tries to get inside Chandler’s head by not entertaining him as much as before. The verbal spats have died out and slowly, Chandler has been wondering if the fight ever happens.

However, McGregor has to return at some point. Fighting Chandler would settle a storyline as well as potentially set up a title fight for the winner of the two. A lightweight bout between McGregor and Islam Makhachev would be the retelling of ‘The Notorious’ fighting his nemesis, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, is it too early to expect that? It doesn’t make sense for McGregor to return without reasonably high stakes. He’s the biggest UFC star out there. It only makes sense for his return to be a very hyped event and something like a co-main or main event would suffice. So why did Chael Sonnen think that the bout is actually not happening.
