UFC fighter Aljamain Sterling has recently opened fire on Marlon Vera. The Bantamweight fighters fight in the same division and are competitive with each other. However, Vera recently pointed out Sterling for ‘cutting’ weight. Due to this, the two have had friction in between. This technique of ‘cutting’ before a fight is considered cheating . Even Joe Rogan also raised this issue in one of his podcast episodes. Despite the hate, it is not legally a form of cheating. Hence, Sterling has opened up with his reply to Vera.

Aljamain Sterling defending his stance on cutting

Although not all UFC stars are open about this practice, Aljamain Sterling surely is. After the call-out from the rival division mate, he uploaded a reel on Instagram. In the video, Sterling defended his stance the best he could.

‘Chito’ had earlier said publicly, “Cutting that much weight is cheating to me. You’re kind of a ‘pom’ if you cut that much weight because you want to be bigger, stronger. That’s why he’s (Aljamain Sterling) been KO’d unconscious because of the amount of weight he cuts. If you touch him, he might go down.

To the call out, ‘Funk Master’ said, “I’ve literally ran face first into the knee of Marlon Moraes and I got face planted.” Then he went on to challenge, “The whole Bantamweight division can go get hit with the exact same force in the exact same spot and I guarantee you are sleeping.

‘Chito’ tried to point out that ‘cutting’ is the reason why Sterling gets KO’d. On the other hand, ‘Funk Master’ said that anybody would be knocked out by the blow he was KO’d by.

Is Aljamain Sterling ultimately justified?

A lot of people associated with UFC do not consider ‘cutting’ to be cheating. However several popular personalities do not like the concept. Often it is seen as a ‘legal advantage’. Joe Rogan, the UFC commentator, called cutting, “sanctioned cheating”.
