Chael Sonnen has an exciting theory about UFC 281
In Chael Sonnen’s YouTube video titled, Why is Khamzat Chimaev so quiet?, the retired UFC legend shared an exchange he had with Khamzat Chimaev. Sonnen shared a brief conversation he had with Chimaev. “I told him ‘I think you’re going to be a backup fighter.’ He went radio silent…”
This is just a rumor but, Sonnen claimed, “I’ve got some evidence to lean towards” ‘Borz’ being the backup for Alex Pereira.

The 45-year-old added that his silence meant his suspicions couldn’t be far from the truth. “I’ve had guys do that to me before… it’s because I’m on to something and they don’t wanna lie to me”
Sonnen also thought that there was nobody else in the Top 5 in the middleweight division who could take on Adesanya. ‘The Bad Guy’ stressed that Adesanya had already bested the top dogs in the middleweight.

“Everybody in the top 5, Adesanya’s fought.”
And if one of them needs to come in as a backup fighter to face ‘The Stylebender’, they would “have an air of redundancy” according to Sonnen. “Unless the backup fighter is Chimaev.” in his video ahead of UFC 281, where Israel Adesanya takes on Alex Pereira.
Khamzat Chimaev planned for this fight against Israel Adesanya
Sonnen also stated this middleweight switch was the reason for ‘Borz’ to stay quiet and not sign on Belal Muhammad or Colby Covington fights.

“The reason he’s not signing off on the Colby fight or responding to the Belal fight is because he does have a plan…”
‘The American gangster’ believes this situation to be similar to when Vicente Luque was to be the backup for Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington in 2021.
