UFC President Dana White Agrees to Gilbert Burns’ Demands After His Threats to Leave the UFC: “You Got It!”
The UFC community just witnessed some spectacular victories at UFC 287. One of the most thrilling fights of the event was the bout between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal. Burns won the fight via a unanimous decision. Even though many predicted Burns to finish Masvidal, the bout went to a decision as Masvidal tried his best to beat ‘Durinho’. The victory now secured Burns the opportunity to be a backup at the next title shot. The UFC president, Dana White, already confirmed that Colby Covington will be the next contender for the UFC welterweight belt, against Leon Edwards.
The MMA world felt that White’s decision was unfair, and that Covington didn’t deserve to get a title shot. ‘Chaos’ has already fought two title bouts against the former UFC champion, Kamaru Usman, and lost both. However, White wanted to give him yet another chance as he was the backup at UFC 286. At the moment, the UFC boss has agreed to the demand of Burns to be the backup for the next title shot. This can eventually take him to the belt in the future.

Burns was adamant that he wanted to be the backup for the next welterweight title shot. If White cannot fulfill his demand, he is ready to leave the promotion as well. However, the UFC boss confirmed that ‘ Durinho’ will become the backup after his decision victory against Gamebred. White was talking in the post-fight press conference of UFC 287. During the press meet, one of the reporters asked, “Co-main event, Gilbert Burns, came into enemy territory, got an impressive win. He was there just before you to say ‘I want to be the backup for the next title shot’. In fact, he didn’t say he want, he said, ‘I demand’. ‘I’m not asking, I’m telling you’. Normally you like attitudes like that?”

As an answer to the question, White said, “I love that, yeah, I love that. Why not? However, it seems that Burns will eventually get a title shot after being a backup.
