Dana white’s new sports business has landed in fresh trouble. Power slap league is a priority project for Dana white. Former California Governor and bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger also backed the sport. In March, he announced an event along with Logan Paul. The event was being staged by Poland-based slap-fighting promoter Punchdown.

The sport now has come under heavy criticism from Sports doctor Brian Sutterer. The doctor has talked about safety issues related to slap-fighting in a video on his YouTube channel, Brian Sutterer MD. According to him, it’s perhaps the most absurd and senseless sport in the world.

He was also not happy with the Nevada Athletic committee for approving slap-fighting. He said “I don’t think any commission should be backing slap-fighting,” Dr. Sutterer pointed out how the No defense allowed format of slap-fighting rendered it utterly dangerous for participants. “What do we always say here in combat sports, whether it’s boxing, mixed martial arts, or whatever? It’s ‘protect yourself at all times.” He further added.

The current format of the sport involves two players standing against each other across a table. Each player takes a hit on the other until one of them collapses. The players are not allowed to block or dodge opposing slaps.

Dr. Sutterer then said, “Fighters, while they’re trying to inflict damage on one another and you might say the injuries that are possible in mixed martial arts are worse looking than the injuries in slap fighting, in slap fighting, there is no defense. You literally are not allowed to protect yourself. And so what you get is basically just two people trading concussive blows for one another.”

Dr. Stutter also agreed to the fact that as a business, slap-fighting had potential and people would love to watch the sport. He, however, has raised genuine concerns over the safety of athletes. This further might create problems for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s beloved venture becoming a mainstream sport.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and many other fans might have been eagerly waiting for the sport to be launched. They may tweak regulations and rules to accommodate opinions, but Dana white clearly isn’t someone who gives up easily. Do you feel safety issues will stop the Power Slap League?
