Poirier was diagnosed with a gruesome Staphylococcus infection. Athletes are especially prone to contracting a Staph infection; from locker rooms and interaction with other athletes. This is common with a Staph infection; as the microbe can mutate and evolve at a fast rate. However, if one drug fails, the doctors prescribe a more potent medication for treatment.
