Jon Jones made his long-awaited return to the UFC on Saturday at UFC 285, and he did so in style. He clocked in at 44 pounds he than his previous weight class, and it was like he never left. Jones now holds the UFC heavyweight title that was stripped from Francis Ngannou when he was unable to come to terms with the UFC on a new contract.

It was clear that Jones was up for the challenge, even though he had never fought anyone as big and athletic as Gane, a one-time interim champion. Despite this, Jones took less than three minutes to finish the fight and win a title in a second-weight class, proving that he’s a cut above the rest. And Dana White, the UFC president, still cannot comprehend how Jones made such a seamless transition to the heavyweight division.

In the post-event press conference, when asked about what went wrong with Ciryl Gane and whether he needs to go back to the drawing board after his loss at UFC 285, White maintained that there’s nothing much anyone can do when facing Jon Jones. He believes that Gane could’ve won against Ngannou, but Jones is in a whole different league. “The Francis[Ngannou] fight, if he[Ciryl Gane] doesn’t go for the heel hook, he wins that fight… He made one silly mistake, you know, out of the five rounds.”, said the UFC president.

He continued, “To even compare Francis Ngannou or Ciryl Gane to Jon Jones, it’s- you can’t. You can’t even compare them to this guy. He went in there and finished[Ciryl Gane]… I still f**king can’t believe what I saw. How easy, how fast, and how simple he made that look. It’s still blowing my mind. So, it’s hard to even talk about him and any other heavyweights.”

“Where You at Francis Ngannou” – UFC World Goes Berserk as Jon Jones’ Completely Overwhelms Cyril Gane at UFC 285

It’s clear that Jones is on a whole different level, and it’s going to take something special to beat him.

What ensued during the Jones vs. Gane fight?

It was amazing to watch the battle between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane disintegrate. Jones has etched his name into the conversation of being the best of all time and demonstrated why his contemporaries hold him in such high regard by finishing Gane in the first round to win the heavyweight championship and go down in history as a two-division title winner.

Jones appeared to be in complete control and needed just one takedown to apply a guillotine choke that pinched Gane against the fence and caused him to tap out with just 2:04 remaining in the opening round. Jones sought to dispel any lingering questions about his historical significance by demonstrating that he could succeed at the heaviest weight.
