On her road to glory, former UFC champion Ronda Rousey had to overcome many adversities. In fact, the first woman to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame began her struggles from the day of her birth. In her memoir, ‘My Fight/Your Fight,’ Rousey detailed the complications behind her birth.
The doctors had to revive Rousey after she was born with her mother’s umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. Although her vitals returned to normal, the doctor mentioned he did not know what the future held.
The doctor’s fears came true almost two years later as a two-year-old ‘Rowdy’ still couldn’t speak.

Ronda Rousey had her mom concerned about her speech troubles
In the book, Ronda Rousey wrote how her parents worried as their two-year-old still had not been talking. Her mother consulted pediatricians who said the child did not feel the need to talk or was not ready to. However, her sisters were able to understand her needs and tend to her.
Nonetheless, Rousey said her mother picked up on her child’s issue. “But my mom knew something wasn’t right. She had two other daughters and was taking classes in things like developmental psychology as she worked toward her Ph.D.”

Rousey remembered how her mother consulted specialists as the situation stayed the same even as her third birthday approached.
She wrote, “They couldn’t find anything in particular wrong with me, but the doctors seemed to believe that being cut off from oxygen at birth might have something to do with my difficulty learning to speak.”
However, Rousey eventually overcame this impediment. She also outlined the reason behind it and how the issue eventually sorted itself out.
How Rousey’s speech troubles were solved
While discussing the reasons behind her speech impairment, Rousey mentioned a specific feature of baby brains. Unlike normal brains where something that dies, stays dead, baby brains can rewire themselves. This is what Rousey said happened to her. Her developing baby brain rewired itself.

“If you took one of those multicolored cerebral activity scans, you’d see the part that controls my speech is located in a different part of the brain than it is for most people. But until my brain got everything rewired, it was like I couldn’t connect the words in my head with my
mouth.”
The former UFC and Strikeforce champion also recollected her struggles to communicate. She mentioned how she would be frustrated and kick whoever she was talking to.
She also mentioned having the utmost trouble, explaining that she wanted a Hulk Hogan Wrestling Buddy for her third birthday.
