As the days go by, more fighters are jockeying for position to be the one to fight Nick Diaz. First, it was Darren Till, then came Leon Edwards, Khamzat Chimaev, and Conor McGregor. Now, Stephen Thompson put his name forward to battle the former UFC welterweight championship challenger.
‘Wonder Boy’ said, “I want to put my name out there if Nick Diaz is willing to come back. At this point, I don’t care, UFC, just give me somebody. I’m ready to go out there and scrap.”
However, he wasn’t alone as Mike Perry joined the fray. ‘Platinum’ shared a screenshot of Thompson’s comment on his Instagram story and wrote, “I volunteer.”

A few hours later, the welterweight fighter took to Twitter and ran down Nick Diaz. He goaded the 37-year-old about the division understanding if he bailed on a comeback. Perry also predicted how a fight would progress if he got booked against Diaz.
He wrote, “I’ll hit you with this right hook and you’ll pull guard and I’ll just ride out the time with ground and pound from top position. If you don’t want to come back we understand, just stop clout chasing (Nick Diaz)”

‘Platinum’ promised that he is not just talking and would show up to allow the 37-year-old to deal with him. Once more, he claimed that Diaz would not show up.
Is a Mike perry vs Nick Diaz fight viable?
The UFC will not offer Mike Perry a UFC fight for a while, and his eventual return could coincide with Nick Diaz’s return. Perry may not be as attractive a name as some higher-ranked welterweight contenders. However, he knows how to sell a fight and the prospect of Nick Diaz and Mike Perry trash-talking each other ahead of a fight will leave fans salivating, thus leading to a large buy rate for the UFC event.
However, Dana White has said that he has no expectations from a Nick Diaz return. Hence, until the talks with Diaz’s camp prove worthwhile, the UFC will not feature him in their plans.

This means that no opponent will be considered or kept aside for Nick, and more names will enter the fray in calling out the veteran. Presently, Diaz can just saunter into a matchmaking meeting and he would be spoiled for choice if asked to name his preferred opponent.
