Robert Whittaker will not be fighting Paulo Costa anytime soon. The new #1 contender at middleweight, Whittaker is only looking to fight for the title. Ever since his loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 253, Costa has been trying to get back in contention for the throne.
Costa was supposed to provide a real challenge for Adesanya, with even UFC president Dana White calling it the biggest fight of the year. Things did not go Costa’s way, and Stylebender put on a striking showcase to finish ‘Borrachinha’ in the second round.
After initially failing to excite the fans on a potential rematch with Adesanya, Costa seems to have turned his attention to Whittaker.

Costa seems to now be trying to get a fight with Whittaker. But sitting down with Submission Radio, ‘The Reaper’ refuted these claims. “No, I haven’t heard anything about anything.”
Robert Whittaker last fought at UFC 254 in October and laughed off claims of him fighting before the year ends. “Did he say December? There’s no way I’m fighting in December, no way.
“I wasn’t going to fight for a title in December and I’m definitely not going to fight him.”
Whittaker plans to take some time off
Having just fought less than a month ago at Fight Island, Whittaker is still in self-isolation. Australia’s stringent coronavirus precautions require self-isolation for 14 days.
Having not met his family yet, Whittaker is looking for some well-deserved time off while the division sorts itself.
