

UFC megastar Conor McGregor reacted to Anthony Smith handing his broken tooth to the referee. UFC on ESPN+ 29 showcased some of the most gruesome injuries in the sport. Unfortunately, Smith was one of the two men to suffer from such ill-fate.

In the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 29, Smith took on Glover Teixeira. Although he looked good in the first round, he got dominated midway through the second round as a result of gassing out. ‘Lionheart’ displayed insane toughness in a one-sided beat down against Teixeira.

During the fight, Smith handed a broken tooth to referee Jason Herzog. “I couldn’t keep my mouthpiece in place due to the missing tooth,” Smith told Ariel Helwani. “I looked down and it was on the canvas. So I grabbed it and handed it to him.”

McGregor, who is a knockout artist himself, couldn’t help but react to the situation.

If the broken tooth/teeth are placed in a jar of milk within five minutes, the root cells can be preserved for up to an hour. This means that the chances of successfully reattaching the teeth/tooth increase significantly.

Overall, Smith suffered from a broken orbital bone, broken teeth, and a cut underneath his eye. Smith’s corner received heavy criticism for not throwing in the towel. Even the President of the UFC was unimpressed with the cornermen.

“I do (think we need more corner stoppages),” Dana White told reporters, including MMA Junkie, post-fight at UFC on ESPN+ 29. “I didn’t think his corner was going to let him come out, but that’s between them and their corner. And the ref could’ve stopped that in the fourth, too.”
On the other hand, Smith’s head coach believes that he had seen his student in adversity before and there was a possibility for a comeback.
