The pioneer in women’s MMA and a multi-sports athlete, Ronda Rousey struggled to deal with her first UFC loss. While losses are part of the sport, ‘The Rowdy One’ was undefeated and showed unparalleled dominance inside the Octagon. But when the tide went south, she thought of some extreme things that she discussed later on.

On The Ellen Show, Rousey detailed what was going through her head after the loss and what helped her get through it. Rousey’s revelation of mental health struggle had the internet slamming her for not receiving defeat well. But the former 6-time women’s champion knew her words could change people’s lives, thus she continued to voice about more education on the topic.

Rousey, in an interview with TMZ, again emphasized the importance of people talking about mental health struggles as she had personal losses when she was only 8 because of it. She said, “There’s a history of suicides in my family. My dad and his father both took their lives. And I think suicide is the number killer of young teens as well.”

Rousey expressed she joined Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services in LA to remove the ‘stigma’ regarding mental health.

“It’s not about you know damning people, you know. I feel like there’s an overly negative light on it. It’s real and people are going through it and not something a weakness that we should condemn,” noted Rousey.

Rousey eventually got through her struggles and returned to face Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. And even though the official result of the bout didn’t go her way, she came back to the limelight to face her struggles, which was a win of its own.

Currently, she’s having a phenomenal run in the WWE facing cheers and boos from the WWE Universe.
