Rich Gaspari is a bodybuilding legend. The veteran was among the top bodybuilders of his time. While he never won Mr. Olympia, Gaspari gave Lee Haney, the man who broke Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s record of most Olympia wins, a run for his money. Despite retiring from competition decades ago, the three-time runner-up has continued to be a relevant presence in the bodybuilding world. Earlier, the 59-year-old veteran showed he still has the ability to perform heavy squats.

Rich Gaspari might be pushing 60, but his most recent video showed him defying his age. Earlier, the veteran bodybuilder uploaded a snippet from his leg day on Instagram. The veteran also described how he felt after the workout.

In the video he uploaded to Instagram, Gaspari can be seen exercising on a hybrid hack squat/front squat machine. Despite pushing 60, the three-time Mr. Olympia runner loaded the exercise machine with at least seven plates on each side. Instead of doing the traditional hack squat, Gaspari used the machine to perform front squats. Besides his workout attire, Gaspari also wore a weightlifting belt to stabilize his core.

The 59-year-old revealed how his leg day workout went. “Leg Day. Front Squat machine felt great on the lift,” said Gaspari. “Doing 20 reps parallel,” added the former Mr. Olympia contender. In the video, Gaspari grunted with every rep indicating the effort it took to lift heavy. However, doing 20 reps with at least seven plates on each side is an impressive feat of strength.

The bodybuilding veteran also revealed how he could lift so much weight without joint issues. “Again not necessary to go below that (parallel), causing knee issues.” wrote Gaspari in the caption. The former competitive bodybuilder also wrote about the mind-muscle connection. “Doing the work contracting at the top and feeling each rep,” wrote Gaspari.

Gaspari impressed fans with his lift. “Insane my friend,” wrote one fan. “Huge weight,” wrote another. However, many commenters sounded critical of the 59-year-old’s range of motion. “Weren’t you recently talking sh** on the new generation saying they don’t train hard? Then you upload these 1/4 squats?” wrote one user. However, Gaspari replied to the comment himself.

“Haha. I knew someone would make a stupid comment that I’m doing full reps. Again they are parallel and still getting effective activation to my quads. You may not think so but they are still activating muscle,” replied the bodybuilding legend. Recently, Rich Gaspari stirred up quite a controversy when he compared current Mr. Olympia Hadi Choopan with the six-time champion Dorian Yates.
