But, one needs to master the mental game too. Arnold Schwarzenegger completely dominated that section. Now, he is what people know as one of the finest bodybuilders. 

 

There is no use in getting fully prepared and succumbing to mental pressure on the day of the competition. It is where Arnold played his cards. Cleverly enough, he weakened his opponents by inflicting self-doubts into their thoughts. A simple genius at work!

Significantly, he worked with various trainers and bodybuilders to understand the psychology of the game. He understood the weaknesses and strengths of his rivals while playing subtle mind games. Using his powerful body to attain a mental edge over his competitors, Arnold played his way into his opponent’s minds.

“Let me ask you something, do you have any knee injuries or something like that?” Then they would look at me and say, “No, why? No, I have no knee injury at all. No, my knees feel great.” And they say, “Why are you asking?” I said, “Well because your thighs look a little slimmer to me,” mentioned Arnold. Clearly, the opponent lost the battle before it even started.

After ushering some brutally convincing words to his opponents, he took the stage and posed like a million bucks, took over the title, and left! It was the routine he played out for a long time. Not only did he master the art of building his thighs like tree trunks, but he also gave it a quick go at his opponent, planting a seed of doubt to rattle their composure. It probably worked wonders.

Visualizing his way to victory

Another crucial point to note for bodybuilders is visualization. Working out on the right muscle and visualizing it to grow bigger remains the key to having a great body. One cannot measure these curious intangibles or dig deep into them. It is from experiences that bodybuilders like Arnold gain throughout their careers. Although physical attributes play a massive role, being strong mentally is vital for everyone to succeed in life.

Arnold became the blueprint of success for most bodybuilders. Since his yesteryears, he discussed how he would become an investor, an actor, and a politician. Visualizing his way to those roles, he did it. Although it is not quantifiable, mental ability plays a titanic role in shaping a person.
