Oscar-Winning Director Raises Eyebrows After Announcing Bruce Lee Film

The Taiwanese director recently announced his intention to make a biopic on the legendary martial artist, actor, and director. 3000 Pictures, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, has completed a deal with Ang. However, the announcement raised some eyebrows because of one reason.

Many are excited to see how the multiple-time Oscar winner will tell Bruce’s story. However, people have pointed fingers at Ang’s decision to cast his son, Mason Lee, as Bruce. During an interview with Deadline, the legendary director spoke about how the martial arts icon has inspired Ang.?“This brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame,”?Ang told Deadline. Ang also said Bruce revolutionized martial arts with Jeet Jun Do and action cinema in the U.S.?

3000 Pictures’ president Elizabeth Gabler said the biopic is Ang Lee’s passion project. She also said everyone at 3000 Pictures is ready to help the Oscar winner create?“An extraordinary theatrical event.”

The Oscar-winner’s similarity to Bruce Lee

Bruce carved out an identity in Hollywood with his unique style of filmmaking. The Taiwanese director has done the same. His unique blend of styles and curiosity to explore genres has bagged him three Oscars. Ang Lee won an academy award for best foreign language film with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).

He was also the first non-white filmmaker to win an academy award for best director. The legendary director has won the award twice, for Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Life of Pie (2012).
