Rare Image Shows Bruce Lee’s Never-Seen-Before Boxing Tricks

Bruce Lee desired to teach and learn several things in his short life span. Boxing was something that always fascinated the master. As a result, when he invented Jeet Kune Do in 1967, he incorporated boxing tactics in JKD’s fast and effective moves. Besides, he also bonded with his martial art partner, Ted Wong with whom he performed several boxing sessions. Recently, an unseen image from those days resurfaced on the internet.

On May 16, Bruce Lee’s memoir Instagram page shared a mind-boggling image of the master performing a power-packed boxing move against Ted Wong. It also highlighted an important life quote by the Little Phoenix.

How Bruce Lee ended up making Ted Wong his martial art partner?

In Lee’s latest Instagram picture, the master is seen punching Ted Wong in the face with his right hand. Thankfully, Wong has donned boxing headgear. Also, both the legends wore gloves in their restless boxing session. While punching Wong, Lee had a powerful expression that indicated his admiration for the sport.

Nevertheless, the post also added a life quote by Lee that read, “A shock acts as a reminder to oneself that we must not get stale in routine. Look at a rainstorm; after its departure everything grows!” It indicated Lee’s curious nature to keep exploring newer things in life than just sticking to martial arts.

For the unversed, Ted Wong was always a boxing enthusiast until he saw Lee delivering a King Fu seminar in Los Angeles. It fascinated the Hong Kong native to join Lee’s Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute. Coincidentally, Lee recognized Wong’s mettle to become an able Jeet Kune Do teacher. So, he began giving him private practice sessions, making Wong his training partner. In fact, only Dos Insanto and Ted Wong are the two people in the world who have achieved teacher status in Jeet Kune Do under Bruce Lee.

In 2020, the Black Belt Magazine shared a resurfaced interview of Ted Wong from 2008. In that interview, the martial art legend shared his bond with Bruce Lee. He revealed that when he first came to Lee’s classes, he was the weakest compared to other students. However, Lee recognized that he was hardworking. The master also noticed that Wong was from Hong Kong and spoke Chinese. That made them good friends. Besides these aspects, boxing was another reason that helped them bond.

Wong revealed that one time, Lee asked him several questions while reading a boxing encyclopedia. The master was highly impressed as he could answer most of the boxing questions. Wong shared that he had a great interest in the sport and would read a lot about it. This hugely helped in making him bond with Bruce Lee.
