2 years back, in the 2023 World Swimming Championships, Ariarne Titmus broke the women’s 400-meter freestyle world record with ease. Titmus recorded a time of 3:55.38, which shattered the previous world record by seven-tenths of a second as the Aussie star made sure to dominate the pool from the very beginning of the race to the finish. And while she defeated the four-time defending champion Katie Ledecky, the already popular swimmer from Australia took no time to find her place in fans’ hearts. But that was just the beginning.

In the 2024 Paris Olympics, too Titmus grabbed the gold, defending her title, going ahead of Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh in 3:57.49 in the 400m freestyle. She further secured two consecutive silver in 200m and 800m freestyle. And just when swimming enthusiasts were eager to witness more of her impeccable run in the pool, she announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the age of just 25 this October. However, her recent performances have created ripples in the swimming world, leaving fans quite curious about the happenings in her professional and personal life. And a new update surrounding Titmus’ love life has just added more fuel to their curiosity.

Who Is Ariarne Titmus?

Her journey started back in 2015, when a young teenage girl of 14 moved to Queensland with her family with dreams in hearts. Following that, in 2016 herself she stepped into the competitive realm and won a silver in the 4×400m relay at the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Games. And since that win, there was no turning back as Titmus kept on adding feathers to her crown with every win on the water. 

In the 2019 World Aquatics Championship, she broke the Oceania record in the final with a time of 3:58.7, beating Ledecky in the women’s 400m freestyle. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, too, Ariarne Titmus’ spectacular performance gave her nation two individual gold medals and one silver. In the 200m and 400m freestyle, Titmus did not let go of her gold, and in the 800m freestyle, he secured a silver. The series of wins further continued in the Paris Olympics too, until she decided to announce her farewell from the competitive sphere suddenly. 

Titmus took to her Instagram on October 16, 2025, and shared, “I’ve always loved swimming, but I guess I’ve taken this time away from the sport and realised some things in my life that have always been important to me are just a little bit more important to me now than swimming.” At just 25, Ariarne Titmus retired from her sport as one of the most successful Olympians of Australia. Ariarne Titmus: Is she in a relationship?

Last January, at the 2025 Australian Open, Ariarne Titmus made headlines yet again. And it was not for her wins in the water. She publicly made her relationship with her current boyfriend official as the duo attended the Australian Open together. Titmus met Mack Powell in October 2024. And three months after keeping their relationship a secret, Titmus revealed her bond with Mack publicly. 

Though the retired swimmer originally hails from Queensland, she was spotted quite frequently in Melbourne back at the beginning of 2025. And fans are speculating that it was because of her meeting Mack back in that time. On day 12 of the Australian Open, at the women’s semifinal match Ariarna Titmus was spotted among the audience, accompanied by Mack Powell. Titmus herself revealed to Herald Sun, “It’s our first night out in the wild. We met three months ago and I’m very happy.” But that wasn’t all!

On January 25 itself, after witnessing the action live on the hard court sitting right beside her beau, Ariarne also shared an Instagram update making things official. She shared a picture of the two watching the tennis match. Although it still remains unknown to the fans how the couple met and developed the bond, Titmus told Herald Sun that Mack Powell is a “normal guy who isn’t in the spotlight”

In April 2025, the couple was spotted yet again. And this time in a public event, the 2025 Laureus World Sports Award in Madrid. It was the same time when her other teammates were at Brisbane participating in the National Championships. Attending the event with her boyfriend, Titmus added, “Becoming an Olympic champion has exposed me to some opportunities I would never have had, I’ve tried to lean into those as much as possible. [Laureus] is basically like the Oscars of sport.” 

Titmus further added, “When I had the opportunity to go over I just said to myself ‘I have to go’, because you never know when you’ll be nominated for another one. It was honestly pinch yourself stuff, just to be around legends who are still competing like (Novak) Djokovic and (Carlos) Alcaraz. Rafa (Nadal) was there, Kelly Slater.” The Aussie star shared how she got the opportunity to sit for dinner with Boris Becker at the event. She was glad that got the chance to ask him “questions that you would never have the opportunity to ask otherwise. I will remember that for the rest of my life.”

Adding to that, right after her phenomenal performance at the Paris Olympics, she took a trip to New Zealand with her partner. The duo enjoyed their post-Olympics holiday making memories while skiing and taking helicopter rides together. She even added some moments of their heartfelt and cozy time in Victoria on her Instagram and wrote, “happy little vegemite.”

Titmus, speaking about her relationship, stated, “I believe everything happens for a reason and I would have made this decision if I was on my own now, but I make this decision very, very happy in my personal life and I think Mack came along at the perfect time.” The couple also spent a memorable morning on Titmus’s 25th birthday. On September 6, Ariarne and Mack took a hot air balloon ride together to start her birthday morning on a new, adventurous note.

Ariarne Titmus’ Dating History Before Mack- title tweaked 

Before Titmus officially confirmed her relationship status, several rumors had made their way to the headlines regarding her relationship status. Although she was speculated to be single before the 2024 Paris Olympics, since 2022, rumors have been circulating that the swimmer is dating Melbourne Storm fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen.

According to the Herald Sun, Titmus and Papenhuyzen were seen together on Turnbull Stakes Day at Flemington in September 2022, adding fuel to the fire about their relationship. But before rumors about Papenhuyzen surfaced, he had just split from his girlfriend of three years, Magpies netballer Kelsey Browne.

Adding to that, she has also been linked to professional swimmer Kyle Niesle. Ariarne Titmus didn’t date anyone in high school, and she was perfectly fine with that. In an October 2024 episode of the Inherited podcast, the Australian swimming star opened up about her teenage years, saying, “During high school, I never went to a single party, I never had a boyfriend. I just lived a very sheltered life, and I was okay with that because, at 14, I went overseas for the first time to represent Australia.” Her dedication to swimming paid off, but life took a different turn in 2020.

Ariarne Titmus and Kyle Niesler have been romantically linked since 2020. In February 2022, they were spotted enjoying time at the Holey Moley Golf Club. Titmus shared a photo of them arm in arm jokingly saying, “Can confirm I’m the superior putt putter,” accompanied by a heart emoji and a wink.

In 2021, during their visit to Noosa, in Queensland, there was a display of their bond, which Titmus referred to as a “perfect little getaway.” They seemed happy as they documented and posted snapshots of their time.

In April of 2021, Niesler, who was a swimmer from Queensland and almost made it to the Tokyo Games, shared lovely pictures commemorating their first year together.
