And in March 2020, he shared about one of the deadliest incidents while climbing up the rocks in Nevada with the ‘free solo’ star Alex Honnold. The “Suicide Squad” actor fell while climbing at Red Rock Canyon and, to his surprise, he saw his rope breaking. This led to the horrific experience that shook up Leto’s life. In his Twitter post, Leto shared his thrill, “Not to sound dramatic, but this is the day I nearly died.” He went on climbing with Honnold and became electrified to know that the rope that was carrying him started to fray. He also wrote, “Looked up and within seconds the rope was being cut by the rock while I dangled some 600 ft in the air. I remember looking down at the ground below.”

Red rock could have been the end of the legendary actor, but some miracle happened, and he noticed the break before it was too late. His companion was always ready to help and eventually saved him from impending doom. He was standing 600ft up and would climb higher.

Though after this he decided to take a rest to set up his mind. Leto shared a video in the same thread, “It was a strange moment – less fear, more matter of fact, and slightly melancholy. The adrenaline came after, when I got back on the wall. But we made it through and lived to see another day.”

The Academy Award-winning actor is a fearless person and to make that work, he decided to join Honnold on his next venture. They chose Red Rock Canyon which has routes of almost 1000 feet. They were hiking successfully until he noticed something wrong in his rope and came to know that the harsh rocks frayed the tug. This could have led to bitter consequences, but somehow things got well.

Leto seemed to face the experience as an obstacle to his further hiking rather than fearing it. This confidence and practicality came from love and enthusiasm for the sport.
