“Better Than Ever”- Tony Hawk Believes He Has Reached His Peak at 53; Denies Retirement Talks Post Injury

From presenting at the Oscars to promoting his documentary, Tony Hawk is a busy man these days. The legendary skateboarder recently attended the Oscars, along with Kelly Slater and Shaun White; the trio paid tribute to James Bond on the characters’ 60th anniversary in Hollywood.

Notably, Hawk used a cane at the Oscars as he is injured right now with a broken femur. However, that hasn’t kept him away from skating as he aims for a speedy recovery. Despite such a grave injury, he recently about continuing his passion until he can “stand on [his] own two feet.”

Landing the first televised 900, Hawk is still the best skateboarder in the world and an icon for the younger generations. And truly, it is a stunning achievement for Hawk to keep going at the highest level even at 53.

Hawk broke his upper leg back in March while performing a stunt. Speaking to ETOnline at the premiere of his documentary ‘Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off’, he opened up about his love for skateboarding and how he continues to challenge himself at this age. Having a serious leg injury does not stop him from doing what he loves as Hawk is focused on getting back to the ramp.

“If I’m able to stand on my own two feet then I want to ride a skateboard. I might not be doing it in public so much going down the line. If I feel like my skills are truly fading then I won’t be doing it on a public level or at an exhibition mode, but I don’t make ultimatums,” said Hawk.

Regaining his mojo back

Ever since he started skateboarding, Hawk invented new tricks. As most people try to learn those tricks, Hawk’s skateboarding intelligence was A+. Hence, he still wants to continue to become better by creating new tricks and skateboarding until he can.

“I’m 53. I truly felt like, before I broke my leg, I was skating almost better than ever or better than I have in the last 10 years. I want to get back to at least some form of that same level of skating,” said Hawk.

It is just incredible to watch one of the greatest skateboarders in the world continue to influence the sport. Tony Hawk is what Shaun White is to snowboarding and Kelly Slater is to surfing. It goes without saying, these personalities are the GOATs of their respective sport.
