Vonn announced her retirement from alpine skiing before the 2019 FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships at Åre, Sweden. She took to Instagram to share a lengthy account of the reason behind her departure from the sport.

In the post, Vonn wrote, “Over the past few years, I have had more injuries and surgeries than I care to admit.” The skier further added, “My body is broken beyond repair and it isn’t letting me have the final season I dreamed of. My body is screaming at me to STOP and it’s time for me to listen.”
