The effects a brain tumor can cause are devastating for the patient, as well as the loved ones of the patient. When it impacts the entire brain, it harms physical abilities and can cause many other problems. It’s painful to lose someone close, due to a brain tumor or any other disease. An incident similar to this occurred with a family living in Wakefield. After they realized what they had lost, they took responsibility for improving the lives of others. However, their nine-year-old boy, Rory Crawford, took the family’s initiative to a whole new level by swimming.

As a result of brain diseases, it requires a great deal of effort to take care of the individual. Monitoring the patient’s response is an essential part of the treatment process. Crawford’s family members made numerous attempts to save one of their members but ultimately lost the battle with the disease. As Rory Crawford, nine years old, watched his family raise funds for a good cause, he offered assistance.

The swimming challenge will take place at Nuffield Health’s Wakefield Fitness and Gym, where he will swim five kilometers. Rory spoke some words about the challenge, and he said“Mummy’s cousin died of a brain tumour, and I want to do something to stop it happening to other people and save their family and friends from the sadness I saw. I am amazed that friends and family have donated already, and I have raised more than £300, double what I set out to do!”

He concluded, “When I am swimming, my favourite thing is back-stroke.” Many people have praised his initiative to raise funds for Lydia’s wish to take her aunt’s legacy to a new level. The total amount of funds raised so far amounts to approximately £20,600.

Lydia’s legacy throughout the battle

The Brain Tumor Research Organization is organizing a swimming challenge in August for him. On 22 May, his aunt Lydia Carfrae-Brohaska passed away from glioblastoma. Her age was 36, and she has been undergoing treatment since being diagnosed in 2018. She stopped responding to treatment in April after undergoing extensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
