Evidently, the vibrant hiking trip through the morning sun turned stingily grim when Kenneth Swymer Sr. faced some physical troubles, leading to a medical emergency. Adding to the misery, he collapsed without warning, recorded shortly after 11 a.m. Despite immediate efforts from professionals to save him, this beloved figure’s life ended in a brutal climax, halting his hiking escapades forever.

Hiking trip shadowed by stinging emergency 

On that fateful Tuesday morning of November 21, a distress call reporting a medical emergency on the Marlborough Trail of Mount Monadnock had triggered swift responses. Unfortunately, Swymer’s dumbfounding collapse, witnessed by his hiking companion, had prompted an immediate call to 911. With immediate action from New Hampshire Fish and Game and various emergency services, a dedicated hiking rescue mission was prepared.

Following the distress call, officers from Troy and Jaffrey police departments, along with firefighters from Jaffrey, Keene, Dublin, and Swanzey, rushed to the scene. Medics from the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance Service and volunteers from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team joined forces, deploying their expertise to aid in the rescue effort. However, despite valiant attempts at CPR by the friend until the arrival of first responders, fate seemed unyielding.

Subsequently, the hiking enthusiast’s life ebbed away due to his enigmatic physical condition, leaving behind a void in the hearts of those who knew him. Swymer, an active chaplain esteemed for his service in various capacities, had always been a fan of adventures. Additionally, his hiking prowess was boundless, although the dedicated man has a versatile career beyond these thrill-seeking feats.

Remarkably, he was even a teacher at St. Joseph’s School, also known for providing spiritual guidance at the Keene Fire Department. But that was not all, but a mere fragment of Swymer’s admirable persona. With a glorifying career in rearview, Swymer also had profound impacts on the Parish of the Holy Spirit, and Cheshire County jail, sharing his words of wisdom. 

Sadly, Kenneth Swymer Sr.’s routine hiking venture took an imaginable turn for all, striking a loss like never before. After the news came along, his demise left behind a legacy that resonated far beyond his professional roles. Alongside touching lives and hearts, the hiking lover’s life story also inspired the community to live with high-spirited energy, embracing thrill-seeking trips like hiking escapades.
