Stephanie White knew Fever was a team to be built around Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. “These two…are going to go down in history as the greatest,” she had said, speaking about the duo. Soon after, when Boston assured that they were more polished and prepared for the season than the campaign before, the fans had every reason to hope. Though it may have dwindled somewhere along the way, the 2023 ROTY seems to be reinstating.
Despite kicking off the season with a 2-2 record, there was plenty to be excited about for the Fever. Both losses came by a combined margin of just 3 points, and they were holding their own against top-tier teams like the defending champions, New York Liberty. But the real highlight? The chemistry between Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Through those first four games, Boston was putting up a career-best 18.5 points per game, and 19 of her 31 field goals came off assists from Clark.
But things took a turn when Caitlin Clark was sidelined for two weeks with a left quadriceps injury. Unfortunately, this was just the start of an injury-plagued season for her. The Fever initially struggled to adjust to her absence, but they’ve since found their rhythm. As head coach Stephanie White said, “Learning to play without [Caitlin]… is important because that’s gonna pay dividends down the stretch of the season for us.” Now on a four-game winning streak, the Fever owe much of their success to Aliyah Boston’s standout performances.

The 2023 No.1 pick was on a mission in the Fever vs Wings clash! She dropped a solid 12-point, 11-rebound double-double and set up 5 baskets for her teammates as well. She had a +/- score of + 20 against the Paige Bueckers-led side. Oh, and did we mention the Fever walked away with a 10-point win? To top it all off, Boston etched her name into the record books with a stat line most centers would happily frame on their wall!

According to Polymarket Hoops, Boston is the only center to have 100+ assists in the league. Remember when Seerat Sohi said,” It actually unlocks a lot of opportunity for the Fever, where I think that they should start doing some stuff that they should probably incorporate even when Caitlin comes in. If you can have her [Boston] straight up as the person catching the ball on the inbounds or if you can just have Natasha Howard or DeWanna Bonner playing that role, I think it makes running that offense a lot easier.”
Well, that’s exactly what’s happened! With Caitlin Clark out, Aliyah Boston has taken the reins in more ways than one, especially as a playmaker. She’s currently second on the Fever in assists, averaging 3.8 dimes per game with 107 total. Among centers in the league, only A’ja Wilson is the nearest to her, sitting at 3.4 assists per game with 79 in total. So yes, Clark’s absence has given Boston the chance to evolve her game and quickly turn into the WNBA’s equivalent of Nikola Jokic!
But that’s not the only reason Aliyah Boston’s been making headlines lately; she’s making some major moves off the court too!
